Ask your child if he/she can tell you! - practiced a Halloween song and cheer - practiced skipping and ball skills (passing, catching and kicking) Reminders: October 26 - No School Professional Development Day October 31 - Picture Retakes 9:05 - If you wish for your child to have a retake, please return the portrait package. (Your child can change into his/her costume after retakes.) Kindergarten Halloween Celebration - Students are asked to wear their costumes to school. Please ensure that your child's costume does not impede his/her vision and include any type of weapon accessory. Parents and younger siblings are invited to join us in the classroom from 11-11:50. Kind Club is hosting a fundraiser next week on Monday, Oct. 29, Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Wednesday, Oct. 31 called Popcorn for Paws. We're selling a few flavours of Kernels Popcorn and all proceeds will be donated to The Calgary Humane Society. Popcorn will be $2.50 per bag. Please send your child with the correct change and we will send the popcorn home with your child. Please help us support this wonderful local organization! Jacket Racket - The grade one students are looking for donations of gently used (or new) winter coats, fleece jackets, snow pants, and other winter gear of all sizes (baby to adult). Please send in any donations from November 5-9. This week at school we really focused on "filling each other buckets". We read a story called "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?". The premise of the story is that we all have an invisible bucket above our heads and others around us can fill our bucket by making us feel happy and safe or others may do things to hurt our feelings and empty our bucket . We will continue to perform random acts of kindness to fill others buckets. Actions as simple as a smile and lending a helping hand go a long in filling others buckets! The children also learned that when they are "bucket fillers" their bucket gets filled too!
This week at school the children: - practiced printing the letter "Ff" and the word of the week "if" - practiced identifying words beginning with the "F" sound - formed a human number line to practice number recognition and order - each student was given a number from 1-16 and they were instructed to line up in order from 1-16 WITHOUT TALKING". They completed the challenge very quickly and successfully! - reviewed the main parts of the body and used the leaves they collected to create a leaf person - discussed proportion, shape and location of body parts when making their leaf person (ie. the body is bigger than the head) - had a presentation on healthy eating presented by two medical students from the University of Calgary. The children learned the 4 main food groups and foods within the food groups. They also saw how many sugar cubes were in various beverages. I'm not sure anyone would want to drink a coke after seeing how many sugar cubes it contains. (21!) There seems to be an increase in children bringing toys from home to school lately. I discourage this because often times special items get lost or broken and the children have many toys and games to play with in the classroom. In January we will begin a sharing time in which your child will have an opportunity to bring special items for sharing with the class. Thank you for your support! Reminders: October 24 - Picture Retakes - Please return your child's portrait package if you wish for your child to have a retake October 25 - Halloween Family Dance 5:30-7:30 - Thank you very much for all of the donations for the Gift Basket! October 26 - Professional Development Day - no school for students October 31 - Kindergarten Halloween Celebration - 11:00 - 11:50. Children are to wear their costumes to school. I didn't think we'd have to be dealing with snowsuits, hats, mitts and boots already!! Even though it's wet and snowy, the children love and need to go outdoors for fresh air and exercise every day, so thank you for having your child dressed appropriately for outdoor play!

The results of the EYE will be shared with you at Parent/Teacher conferences in November. - your child/ren also received a letter regarding "Enhanced Supports in Kindergarten.
