Mrs. Crone's Kindergarten Blog |
We began our week with a practice lockdown drill first thing on Tuesday morning. This was the Kindergarten students' first practice lockdown drill and they did very well staying quiet and calm. After the lockdown practice we discussed the reasons for lockdowns and the importance of staying quiet and calm. As this can be upsetting for some students, please talk to your child about the importance of lockdown practices and reassure him/her that we have to be prepared, so that we will be safe in the event of an unexpected situation. The whole school participated in an assembly presented by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Rideau Park School is participating in the Jump Rope For Heart Fundraiser May 21-31, 2019. Jump Rope for Heart encourages kids to be active and help others by raising funds to support heart & stroke research. We will be fundraising May 21 – 31 with an initial fundraising goal of $1500. Students are learning skipping skills in PE and how to keep their heart and brain healthy. Giving back to our community is important to us, so all prizes earned will be donated to the Alberta Children's Hospital. A notice about the fundraiser was sent home in your child's folder. Donations can be made at www.jumpropeforheart.ca (Select Rideau Park School – Calgary. Donations can be made to the school or to a specific student) Also, this week at school the children: - were very excited to receive our caterpillars for our study of the life cycle of butterflies - learned about the characteristics of insects - identified and labelled the main body parts of a butterfly - practiced reading and printing the word of the week which was "and" - learned about the origin and meaning of Terran's name, his favorite toys and that he is learning to speak a second language.
